HSS FAQ's
| What
is the purpose of HSS? |
Hot
Shots Secret was developed for a major engine manufacturer. Today's
diesel engines are much more efficient than those just 10 years
old. To increase the efficiency of the burn, diesel engine manufacturers
have increased the pressure at the tip of the injector. Older engines
are in the 1200 - 1500 psi range where new diesel engines are as
high as 35,000 psi. This increase in pressure atomizes the diesel
fuel and provides for a better, more efficient burn (more power,
less particulates).
Unfortunately there are some problems that come with this improvement.
Higher pressures and higher temperatures have a burning effect on
the engine oil. The engine oil is used as hydraulic oil to push
the injector plunger which in turn pushes out the diesel fuel and
atomizes it. Over time a thin layer of oxidized oil and additives
slow down the injector. At first this shows up as sluggish acceleration.
As time goes on it actually stops the injector from working. This
is the point that the injector usually gets replaced. |
| How
should I use HSS? |
| One
bottle or 64 ounces of HSS is the exact amount of additive to clean
the injectors and get them operating properly. You can use 32 ounces
of HSS ½ of the bottle for preventative maintenance, every 3-4 oil
changes. |
| Does
it work? |
Hot
Shot's Secret will fix this problem, even if the injector is at
the point of not working. Hot Shot's Secret is a combination of
detergents and dispersants that clean up the carbon and oxidation
inside the injector. It also contains additives that make the motor
oil work better. Friction modifiers and viscosity improvers make
everything run smoother, with less friction and acid neutralizers
help to prevent the build up soot in your engine oil.
We have been testing Hot Shot's Secret since 2004 and have found
it to be 86% effective. Trucks having problems were hooked up to
a diagnostic computer and tested. The computer showed anywhere from
1 to 6 injectors needing replaced. HSS was then put in the engine
oil. The trucks were run about 100 miles and the computers were
rechecked. 86% of the time it showed all the injectors were ok.
The owners noticed more power and a smoother running truck. The
other 14% of the trucks showed improvement also, but not a complete
cure. Most of the time, the diagnostic computer showed that 4 injectors
needed replaced. When HSS treatment was added to the engine, the
computer showed 1 injector needing replaced. |
| Has
anyone used HSS? |
"I
think it's good prevenative maintenance when coming up on 100k.
Injectors aren't cheap to replace. My cold starts have been a lot
better lately after running HSS this summer. - Arod

"For all of us running HSS, there has been nothing but positive
results. - Reidicus-
"I have run a full dose in my 05. It starts easier, runs/idles smoother,
and my mileage has improved 2 to 3 mpg. Turbo lag "seems" to be
less too - all in all the truck runs better now. Chris thanks for
offering us a good product that does work. - Offshore1

| How
often should I add a bottle? |
When
symptoms show up.
One quart per oil change for preventative measures.. |
| How
fast do results show? |
| Results
usually show within the first 1000 miles but can vary due to circumstances.
Sometimes a second treatment is necessary, but only in extreme cases. |
| If
you add the whole bottle will it affect API rating? |
Some
people seem to be concerned with upsetting the blend of the oil.
Most of these are the same additives
used in manufacturing the oil. HSS is balanced as a package by itself.
In other words there is enough detergent to offset the dispersant.
So adding it doesn't change anything in a harmful way. Keep in mind
that this product has been tested by a major
engine manufacturer. The testing was done in all climates and
altitudes.
There is no API classification for additives. Hss has no adverse
effect in CI4 or CJ4 oils. |
| Does
it address coking of nozzle? Like redline did with Bosch injectors? |
| No,
the coking in the nozzle happens from the fuel side of the injector.
I recommend 404 Fire Power for that problem. |
| Do
you have any Analysis results? Blackstone results? |
| We
have done oil analysis and the only additive that shows up is the
moly. |
| What
problems were in the case studies of HSS? |
Lack
of power
Hesitation
Cold starts would take longer than they are supposed to
Truck would delay when you stepped on accelerator |
| Is
this product compatible with synthetic oil? |
| Yes it is. |
| Do
I need to remove oil when adding HSS to old oil? Put in less with
new oil? |
Yes,
you should not overfill your oil sump. If you are low on oil you
can just add HSS.
You can add it when you change your oil. The longer you leave it
in the better it will work. |
